Landowner Services

Landowner services provide education, information, and solutions to landowners who are seeking knowledge about — and help with — land that is in a natural state.

General Habitat Inventory

This is the initial inventory of a landowner’s property, in whole or part. For the landowner, it identifies and describes in detail the variety of habitat areas or unique traits of the land. The report also identifies general past history land use and potential areas of significance or concern. The end product is a written description of the landowner’s land, including a supplemental map identifying locations of the different habitat areas, and a final site visit with the landowner, during which the report is explained.

Plant Species Inventory

This service provides a detailed plant species list for requested areas of a property. This includes trees, shrubs, flowers, grasses, legumes, etc. The areas needing a survey may be visited at different times of the year depending upon the detail a landowner is seeking and the type of habitats present.

Depending on the needs of each landowner, this service may include mapping of recreational trails, animal trails, certain habitat areas, location of specific plants, natural springs, or mines.

GIS/GPS Mapping

Depending on the needs of each landowner, this service may include mapping of recreational trails, animal trails, certain habitat areas, location of specific plants, natural springs, or mines.

Land Use Planning

For a landowner’s property, in whole or part, this service recommends how a landowner can achieve specific goals for his/her property by using certain management practices to restore or enhance the natural resources. The plan is supplemented by maps displaying the habitat areas for the recommended management.

General habitat documentation

A general habitat inventory includes photos taken on the property
with descriptions of the natural assets.

Available for a fee, JDCF landowner services provide detailed information that supports specific natural resources on privately-held land. We find that these landowner services are currently in demand by many landowners but not readily available elsewhere.

By helping private landowners care for their land, we are helping to achieve our mission of conserving land and natural resources in Jo Daviess County. These services, as a part-time endeavor for the Foundation, also bring in supplemental income for operating expenses.
